“Using ELAN to annotate sign corpora”
Once upon a time, people had a single video file and a single annotation file. In fact, that’s how most students still start out. But now that our data sets are getting bigger and bigger, we face new challenges that the ELAN annotation software can only partly address for us. In this talk I will discuss the workflow we have developed for the Corpus NGT, a data set consisting of 2000+ annotation files, in terms of both putting data in and getting data out. I will include a sneak preview of a wonderful new ELAN feature called ‘Tier Sets’, which will appear in the next major release, and discuss some of the further outlooks in this domain.
